About me.
Hi, I’m Swarn! I immigrated from India to New Zealand in 2023 to pursue my passion for applied finance and be closer to my family. In February 2024, I completed my Master's in Applied Finance from AUT, where I deepened my understanding of financial markets, data, and technology—three areas that have always fascinated me.
Currently, I work as a Research Assistant at AUT, collaborating on several impactful projects with the Finance and Economics Department. I’ve also had the privilege of completing a summer research internship in December 2024, where I designed a Geopolitical Google Sentiment Index for the US region. This included creating a customizable algorithm to collect data and analyze sentiment trends across global markets, making it highly adaptable for real-world applications. My work also involved a deep dive into Google Trends data and its underlying algorithms, enhancing my expertise in data-driven finance.
In my Master's project and research assistant role, I conducted an in-depth study of the New Zealand mutual fund market and fund portfolio holdings. Additionally, I developed a DuPont Analysis Algorithm in Python to analyse price-to-earnings multiples in the Indian market, which has been instrumental in identifying positional trading opportunities for personal and client portfolios. Currently, I am focused on text data analysis for earnings call tone detection and testing mean reversion strategies in index and cryptocurrency markets.
I am an avid trader with a curiosity for intraday trading, heavily inspired by Al Brooks, whose books have been instrumental in shaping my understanding of price action and trading strategies. Before pursuing my studies at AUT, I spent eight and a half years in wealth management, retail and corporate banking, working with three of India’s leading banks, where I gained extensive experience in banking and financial services.
Outside of work, I find joy in exploring metaphysics and quantum physics, taking beach walks with friends and my dogs, or hiking up mountains. I also enjoy the rewarding process of growing my food, experimenting with cooking, and learning classical dance forms like Kathak. Additionally, I’m deeply intrigued by ancient languages such as Latin, Egyptian and Sanskrit and aspire to study them in the future. These passions not only satisfy my curiosity but also bring a sense of balance, adventure, and fulfilment to my life.
